Feel free to use this post for plotting. You may also direct questions related to this location at the thread below!

LOCATION ♟ Menchik

Also known as Gear City, Menchik prides itself on being the only Blanc city with zero percent mana usage. They’re entirely environmentally-friendly! Clockwork devices both big and small cover the city’s entire landscape. Gears move steam into the city proper via pipes running beneath the metropolis. The buildings here are closely crowded, with barely any space between; the roads are tiny and winding and strangely secret even when they're major thoroughfares. The people of Menchik are very conscientious of time and many children receive watches on their birthdays. Rarely are they late, they follow a rigorous schedule even in their day to day lives. At exactly 4:00 pm, the citizens will stop what they are doing and take chocolate time. Menchikans take their chocolate seriously, along with cheese, steamtech, and metals. These are their main export products, beloved by people around the world.

Thanks to Menchik’s scientists, the steam emitted by the machinery here can be reused almost immediately, resulting in a city that essentially runs itself. Quite a few appliances that may double as souvenirs are not able to sustain themselves by reusing their own steam. The citizens of Menchik do not want anyone taking undue advantage of their beloved machinery, and trying to smuggle self-sustaining appliances out of the city will be met with furious outcry.

Berättelse

Located in the southern area of the city, the clockwork sitting in the Berättelse Clock Tower (popularly known as the Berättelse Tower) is said to be at least a hundred years old. It is maintained and preserved by the local government, as it is one of the first large-scale clockwork machines in Blanc. The nearby chocolate shop and café is also famous for its clock-shaped confectioneries, coffee with clock latte art, and furniture pieces made entirely from recycled clockwork pieces. However, its true selling point is its special chocolate blessed by the goddess Delphine herself, which temporarily erases one’s hunger, thirst and fatigue upon consumption. Don’t eat too many, or you might end up in the hospital!

The tower is the inspiration for many of the souvenirs at the local gift shop at its ground floor. Small working replicas of the clock tower are very popular with tourists. On the tower’s upper floors are the workshops where the clockwork machines sold downstairs are assembled. The resident engineers and mechanics don’t mind showing off their skills to Heroes! One could even commission them for their services if they had the colle.

The observation rooms further up have a scenic view of Menchik’s cityscape to the north and Lebedche Lake to the south. A popular spot for relaxation, the polished gears exposed behind glass walls give this location a dash of Menchik’s signature clockwork aesthetic.

Förnyelse

Förnyelse is a collection of elevated sectors of the city connected by a network of glass tunnels and supported by steel frames. The residential area can be found here, with most elite housing in a guarded sector called the Garden of Elysion. This is also where schools, hospitals, offices, and shops are located, as a majority of Menchik’s population work in the factories and other establishments on the ground below. After school or work, Menchikans love hanging out at their favorite pizzeria, Quad-Ominos. Most Othellians think their pizza is subpar.

Did you know that steam technology was first developed in Menchik? As the birthplace of steam power, Menchik is one of two cities that are responsible for constantly bringing Blanc at the forefront of steam technology. Engineers from all over the world get their education at the city’s many technical schools, the most acclaimed one being Mentink Institute in Förnyelse. The institute is where the laboratory of Menchik’s brightest and eccentric inventor and engineer Charlie Lovelace is located.

Many ambitious tinkerers have fallen into the subculture of making creative modifications to the city's obsolete gearwork, the mechanisms that are no longer connected to the city's own systems. This has become a popular trend over the years, especially resulting in those who engage in making piecemeal, unsanctioned additions to the city's clockwork infrastructure, may leave some surprises both good and bad for hapless passersby in the city streets.

Parks can also be found in elevated bubbles with filters in the form of flying mechanical birds to keep the air fresh and clean! Birds aren’t the only mechanical creatures in Menchik—automatons, clockwork machines in the form of humans, are popular in the city albeit relatively expensive to purchase and maintain. However, they are worth the investment, as these human-shaped machines are capable of joining the workforce and increasing the city’s productivity! Special permits are required to bring these machines outside the city.

Välljud

Back on the ground, Välljud’s infrastructure is influenced by its livelihood: one section is in charge of agriculture and foresting; thus, it is covered in plant life, similar to the Caissan and Polgarian architecture acquainted with climbing vines. The next section has tunnels that lead to the mines underground. Farms, refineries as well as factories can be found in this district. However, going to work isn't without its perils. Deep within the underground are the nomiae, rock-like creatures that consume metal. The citizens of Menchik have developed advanced weaponry and structures to defend themselves against these creatures, but a nomia will leave you alone as long as you don't disturb it. Proceed with caution!

To make travel between districts fast and easy, Menchik has an intricate train system in place, automated with powerful artificial intelligence that is capable of holding a conversation with its passengers. All trains are popular with the children, the most famous being Tommi the Tank Engine, who brings hundreds of people to the city’s renowned cheese and chocolate factory daily. They say the owner of this factory, Willem Wörner, is quite eccentric and owns a crystal elevator that can fly all over Menchik. Many years ago, you could only enter the factory with a platinum ticket, but nowadays anyone can enter for a small fee. The interior is an imitation of Menchik made of edible confectionery and cheese.

Välljud also has many stores that sell household appliances such as ovens, blenders, televisions, or the popular clockwork. They charge a pretty colle, but as a Hero you can haggle for lower prices.

Storslagen

In this busy and brightly colored district, you can find Rybkaland, Menchik’s world-famous entertainment resort and cash cow with attractions such as Narcissa’s Flight, Pirates of the Cumulonimbus and many more. The park’s mascot and namesake, a plump costumed nymph in a brown dress, can be found at Rybka’s Residence at specific performance times. Rybka is also the lead character of Bothello, a stirring musical drama comprised of a completely robotic cast. Be sure to catch it at the nearby theater!

The artistic minds behind Rybkaland have also developed a new section of the resort known as Splatime where visitors can engage in several activities such as live painting, graffiti contests, and paintball matches. Tournaments are held each season!

However, some jokingly say that you haven’t truly experienced Menchik unless you have stayed at Gearson Hotel which is located near Rybkaland. It features a beautiful view on Lebedche Lake, but its real charm would be its many innovative room designs. Some of the quirks of the rooms and hallways include rotating floors and fully steam-powered furnishings! The hotel would get five stars if it weren’t for the robot staff… Most visitors are freaked out by their blank eyes and the grinding of their gears.
