LOCATION ♜ CAPABLANCA
Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, you walk into ours.
Feel free to use this post for plotting. You may also direct questions related to this location at the thread below!
LOCATION ♟ Capablanca | ||
![]() A sunny BEACHSIDE RESORT CITY famous for its white sand, extravagant casinos and bubbling mana-infused beverages—especially the highly-sought after DEEP BLUE, a sweet blue alcoholic drink with a mana infusion said to be drawn from from the sea itself. Each year, thousands of people flock to its magnificent shores; they rival Caissa’s, and many prefer the more serene paradise they provide. Sundown is when the city truly comes to life in a swirl of bright lights mixed with a vibrant crowd, and many THEATERS AND TAVERNS hold shows: from internationally-acclaimed dance troupes to the risque local burlesque. Since Capablanca is situated far from the warfront, its inhabitants are largely IGNORANT OR APATHETIC to the war effort and dangers, or simply too rich to notice. High on the seaside bluffs are numerous VILLAS owned by Caissa elites who come here to get away from busy city life. The city received a popularity boost after the book The Mermaid Diaries, based partially on the MERTOWN situated off the coast, became a worldwide hit. Unfortunately, fiction is far from reality. Hopeless romantics are unlikely to find their mermaid loves or Prince Charmings here—the mythical creatures are tourist-shy and elites are quick to shrug commoners off. Beneath the ritz and glitz of the city's entertainment district lies what Capablancans call the GREY GLIMMER: a fancy term for the emerging powers fighting for dominance. In the back alleys of the city, away from prying eyes and tourists' cameras, OTHELLIAN INVESTORS hope to gain a foothold in the city as a stepping stone to greater influence and power. Their means are far from legal and involve SMUGGLING, DRUG DEALING AND PROSTITUTION OF EXOTIC RACES, such as mermaids and fairies. Whispers have it that they have even managed to capture a lamia from Noir. |
Bel Petto Beach ♖

Capablanca’s shores are best known for their crystal white sands and clear blue seas; harbors, seaside shops and restaurants can be found scattered about. The most popular dishes are those featuring seafood, especially seafood with pasta and pizza. One of the most iconic establishments is Carpablanca Grill & Patio, although they have been suffering from a lack of creative dishes lately. Local tastes veer towards heavy use of tomato, fresh herbs, and artisan cheeses.
The shore is also home to to the Vocaturo Line, founded by Baldassarre Vocaturo, and their ships line Capablanca’s port, arriving and departing at all hours of the day. There are rumors that the company is now owned by the D’Amore family, although an owner has never been confirmed, and various names have floated around throughout the years. Further along the shore is the Bridge of Perenne, a massive bridge which connects Capablanca to the old war fortress of Graupera.
There is, of course, no shortage of fun beach activities that the locals partake in to keep active. Keeping fit and trim is important, as many Capablancans have an image to maintain! People make a day out of simply camping out and admiring all of the chiseled, glistening bodies. One of the most popular sports is a more exhilarating type of surfing, involving steam-powered surfboards that make surfers appear as if they are truly flying over the surface. If you swim far enough from the beach, you can catch a glimpse of the underwater mertown Banikas from the surface.
Banikas Dome ♖

Built upon coral reefs, Banikas’ true uniqueness lies in the dome at the town’s edge. The Banikas Dome is a bubbled off area for humans and other land-dwelling races to get the full underwater experience without sacrificing their oxygen.
Despite the tension between the mermaid community and the mafia (travelers who are suspected to have even vague connections to the mafia are quietly blacklisted and made to leave), the Banikas Dome remains a popular tourist destination and honeymoon spot. Travelers from all over Caissa come to experience authentic mermaid culture. One of the most popular souvenirs is a conchiglia la la, a seashell that when held to your ear plays some of the more popular mermaid songs. Local mermaid singers compete once a year to see whose songs are to be recorded on seashells. One infamous recording is a lullaby which was said to be given to the first mermaid by Sylvant and sung to the first mermaid child, rumored to lull any child soundly to sleep.
Other pastimes include underwater diving and skiing, where daredevils race about the water in bubbles powered by mana and pulled by steam-powered surfboards. Tourists are carefully discouraged from traveling near the deeper mermaid communities, but can experience a number of fantastic sights such as Triton’s Gulch, a gulf that extends to the heart of the ocean, as well as the wreck of the HMS Scuttle. Named after Sir Sebastian Scuttle of Undersee, there had been several calls to remove the shipwreck, but ultimately it was decided that the wreckage held cultural value and was left as a historical site. Nowadays, mermaid children as well as the more daring human ones enjoy playing hide and seek in the rotting wood.
Rimpianti Square ♖

Capablanca’s moneymaker, the entertainment ring. Filled with bright lights, busy streets and busier hands, this part of town never sleeps. In fact, the biggest acts are at the Rossi Theater, which also houses Capablanca’s largest exotic aquarium. Try your luck at the many themed casinos that line the ring! One of the newer ones is the Celadonna, which opened three years ago. Rumors still circulate about it, speculating about who owns the Celadonna and whose money is going into it. It’s said to have ties to anyone from a certain minor noble from Gammon who uses it as his hideaway to it being a front for secret Noir activities. Some say that at night, if you lurk near a certain door, you can hear the cries of stolen squittopos - electric gerbils rumored to be as intelligent as Carriers which are illegally shipped from Capablanca to Gris and then to nations beyond. What we do know is that as one of the premier casinos in Capablanca, the Celadonna stages live shows every night, full card tables are a constant, and it is always busy and always looking for help.
The taverns and cabarets never fail to provide the best shows and spirits! For those who prefer their entertainment to be a little bit beastly there is the La Coniglietta Cabaret, a cabaret specializing in individuals of a fuzzier persuasion. Known for their scantily clad wererabbit waitresses and saucy wererabbit acts, the highlight of La Coniglietta Cabaret’s week is the Saturday night performance which culminates in an elaborate seductive rope dancing act with a chorus line that has to be seen to be believed.
But beneath all the glitter and gold, Capablanca is not what it seems. The entire city is controlled by the mafia, prominent families from Capablanca’s sizeable Othellian community. Crime is rampant: scammers, smugglers, drug dealers and pimps make a living exploiting both rich and poor. Gamblers who have thrown away their life savings are spat out at Sciocchezza Street, nicknamed “Chezza” for the illiterate and the drunk, and usually snapped up to a life of crime or... a different life of crime. It’s not someplace you’d want to take an afternoon stroll. Watch out for pickpockets and cutthroats: sometimes they’re even one and the same. The illegal BANGARGH Gun Shop can also be found here.
Individuals of special tastes can seek out Titania. A high class brothel, the workers of Titania deem no kink too esoteric. They take professional pride in ensuring that every last customer leaves quite satisfied. To this end, they have a number of alchemists on their payroll who create potions of all kinds and are rumored to have mages who specialize in magical enhancements and illusions. It is both protected as well as frequented by members of the Corsi family, who are known to use lightning mana crystals when things don’t go their way in both business as well as pleasure.
Acqua Quieta ♖

A tranquil sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of the entertainment ring, the resort ring boasts resorts, inns, spas, gyms, parks, pools and other leisure spots. Looking for some luxurious rest and relaxation? The Valentina Spa will do everything in its power to ensure you can relax in the best facilities Capablanca has to offer for a hefty price. You can enjoy its famous wine bath, which consists of a large jacuzzi filled with top-shelf merlot, or a gem-infused massage, in which tiny diamonds, rubies, and emeralds are combined with oils and rubbed into your body. Overindulgence not your cup of tea? Perhaps you might have a better time at Signora Teresa Park, a beautiful public park constructed in memory of Teresa Zappa, a famous singer who captured the hearts of the people for over 60 years. Here, visitors can admire beautiful sculptures and various scenic trails, perfect for picnics!
Hotel Caruana, an acclaimed five-star hotel resort, can also be found here. The villas of the rich and famous cluster close at hand, built at higher elevations to avoid the common rabble below. The resort ring is where most Capablancan locals work, and they are known for their hospitality - they never fail to offer a helping hand or a spot at the dinner table. You will often hear the locals recommending the breathtaking view of the ocean from Ventoso Hill. It’s a sight not to be missed on any trip in Capablanca! One popular bit of folklore has it that if you watch the sunset during a certain hour on this hill you can see the spirits of the dead at the bottom of the sea. Others say they see tentacles, but no one has ventured that far and lived to tell the tale.
