“Why? I guess you could call it personal interest...” Alumina, a cloaked and shabbily-dressed girl, will approach you at the Garden of Elysion in Menchik. Protectively looming behind her are two others, most likely the young girl’s older siblings. They don’t look anything alike, though… What could she need help with when she has someone to watch out for her so loyally? The answer becomes clear after she explains her plight. Curious Alumina wants to learn more about magic—curses, specifically. She promises that her interest is purely scientific but her parents rarely let her out of their sight, least of all in the vicinity of dangerous books. Retrieve as many texts you can find on curses and she will reward you handsomely. Travelling Gammonian scholars and Gris refugees in Lasker might know a thing or two. You may also want to employ the aid of those in Pigeonsblood School of Magecraft. If you’re an expert at curses yourself, why not share your knowledge with her? While you’re at it, could you look for her missing pet duck*? * Try as they might, Heroes will not be able to locate the duck. Please stay tuned for plot updates!

“The lady’s squeamish, see? Well, I ain’t good with that sort of thing myself. Good thing my lovely sister’s handy with a gun.” “Yes, it’s... a good thing.” “Aaah, Gretchen! Be careful where you point that, ahaha...” Despite the Heroes’ efforts, Alumina needs more help researching the occult. This time, however, you will be greeted by her siblings Hannes and Gretchen. Strange things have happened in Menchik lately so they say it’s safer for Alumina to stay home and leave this to them! In fact, that’s exactly what they need to look into. Although the nearby forests are not known for their wolves, howls can be heard at the outskirts of town, particularly near the lake. A small number of townsfolk, a majority of them couples soon to be wed, have vanished overnight. They were last seen near the docks. Even stranger are the claims of the children who like to play there—some swear they saw wispy figures dancing along the shores… Thus, Hannes and Gretchen would like you to assist in their investigation, marking their starting point at Lebedche Lake. There’s strength in numbers, or so they would like to think; the police forces sent out to investigate the lake have mysteriously disappeared as well. The siblings will guide the Heroes to the docks where they will hand out maps of the city and the lake, where key areas of investigation have been marked. Custom clues will be given to every character who participates in this mission.

It doesn’t make sense, say Ledo Lisbrand’s friends and employees.

One of the VIPs reported missing, Ledo is a serious person dedicated to his craft—and his love. Until recently, he was engaged to the mayor’s youngest daughter, Alumina Antimoine. While marrying the only daughter of Nestor Nox, CEO of the Nox Mining Corporation, would be a better move for Lisbrand Technologies, not once has he ever spoken to the woman. It was only until he broke off his engagement with Alumina that people had ever seen he and Nerea together.

“Poor Alumina,” says a senior employee at Lisbrand Technologies. “She must be heartbroken. Nerea was her closest friend, and Mr. Lisbrand loved her so much.”

When you leave the building of Lisbrand Technologies, a woman’s body falls right in front of you, the sharp crack of bones against the pavement disturbing passersby to their very core. Upon closer inspection, the fall was not the cause of her death.

She was already headless.

Check the rooftop and you’ll find an empty mana crystal where the body supposedly fell. A mage or a Bishop with the Scholar specialization will discover that the crystal was used to contain wind mana. What a strange thing to find in a city fully powered by steam!
